Opportunity

The possibilities for this ministry are enormous.  Jackson is home to four major colleges (Union University, Lambuth University, Lane College and Jackson State Community College) with Freed-Hardeman University less than 30 minutes away.  There are currently almost 100 students in our directory who are involved with the college and career ministry at some level (this includes students who are away from Jackson attending college).  The ministry is targeted at college age students and those who have recently graduated.  It is currently in its third year and has a core of group of about 30 students who are regularly involved throughout the school year.  Skyline provides an open environment for students to serve in.  We are currently praying and searching for God to lead someone here to take over this ministry.

Job Description

Perhaps the most important part of this position will be the time spent in prayer on behalf of our students and the students attending our local schools.  We are looking for someone who is interested in investing significant time in our student’s lives.  The college and career minister will be responsible for teaching and organizing meaningful classes on Sundays and Wednesdays. He will be expected to work in conjunction with our college deacons.  He will also be encouraged to provide meaningful ministry opportunities for our students.  We believe that people grow best when they are plugged in and using their spiritual gifts.  We value our students at Skyline and we want to continue to seek out new and creative ways to allow them to serve and mature in their faith.  In the past, retreats and short-term missions have played an important part in this ministry.  We are searching for a self-starter who is interested in working on a ministry team with our other staff at Skyline.  There is tremendous potential for someone to continue to develop this ministry in new and exciting ways.

Compensation and other Considerations

Our situation is ideal for someone who wants to work on a Masters degree in ministry at either Union University here in Jackson or Harding University Graduate School of Religion (just an hour away in Memphis).  We will furnish the college and career minister with a house, medical insurance and a part-time salary.
