Here are some passages that I have been meditating on this week as a result of singing the first verse of that old song — “Love, love, love, love/ the gospel in a word is love/ love your neighbor as your brother/ love, love, love.” Let the word of God pour over your heart and refresh you! “Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.” Psalm 36:5 “The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.” Psalm 103:8 “Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs.” Proverbs 10:12 "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you’” Matthew 5:43-44 “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." John 13:35 "If you love me, you will obey what I command.” John 14:15 “. . .God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.” Romans 5:5 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 “Be devoted to one another in brotherly love..” Romans 12:10a “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.” 1 Corinthians 13:1 “Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” Ephesians 5:1-2 “And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight” Philippians 1:9 “Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.” Titus 2:2 “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8 “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” 1 John 3:1a “We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death.” 1 John 3:14 — Bob Clark 10/14/2003
