The Journey - Jesus As Lord

As we progress on the journey of discipleship, we make the decision to follow one master — Jesus Christ. We recognize Him as Lord and King. And yet we recognize our short-comings and we know Jesus could appropriately ask us, “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say” (Luke 6:46)?

So let’s take some time to prayerfully reflect on areas in which we may need training for godliness (1 Corinthians 9:25, 1 Timothy 4:8, 2 Timothy 3:16).

Priorities — “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33).

Materialism — “Then he said to them, ‘Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions’" (Luke 12:15).

Power craving — “Jesus called them together and said, ‘You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant. . . ’” (Mark 10:42-43).

Fear — “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline” (2 Timothy 1:7).

Temper — “Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city” (Proverbs 16:32).

Critical spirit — “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen” (Ephesians 4:29).

Irresponsibility — “Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful” (1 Corinthians 4:2).

Start training today! Pick out one of these areas in which you want Jesus to be your Lord. Pray in the morning. Pray at noon. Pray in the evening. Keep open lines of communication with God as you face challenges and make choices. That’s what the journey is all about — everyday with Jesus!

Enjoy the journey!
